Junior Nurse Sister Mildred Attwood

At Heatherwood 1953-1954

 

Mildred was from Worthing originally and lodged at the nurses home at Heatherwood for which she paid £145 a year for full board and Lodging including Laundry.

Training

Training for Mildred as a nurse was at Hammersmith.

Training

Qualifying at the age of 21 as Junior sister she was offered a post by the then Windsor Group Hospital Management Committee.
Her starting Salary was £425 per annum. She would receive increments of £15 per year commencing in April 1954. Mildred took up the post on 3rd May 1953.

Scouts & Cubs

During her time at Heatherwood she was involved with the Heatherwood Scouts and cubs.
The pictures of her accompanying the scouts to Windsor castle must have been a great thrill for her.
Upon her departure in August 1954, they presented her with a small gift and a letter of thanks.

Mildred's Memories included here from her daughter, display her visits to Windsor Castle with the scouts and Cubs and also pictures taken on the verandah with the children, who were in her charge at this time.
