  • Joy Cox Volunteer at Heatherwood 1962-1997

Joy was first introduced to the league by the collector Miss Bailey who first knocked on her door, Joy had recently moved into Mill ride.

Joy offered her services to the league and along with her mother she helped packed sterile dressing kits for 10 years. The work was carried out in the nurses home by a total of twelve volunteers. Once a week for 2/1/2 hours they made up the packs. Joy has fond memories of her time at Heatherwood and remembers how strict the nurse manager was when they were packing dressings “ Have you washed your hands this morning “. Always remember this Joy recalls.

When the Maternity unit was built in 1972 and a new sterile dressing department was created ( CSSD ) their services were no longer required. It was at this time joy was invited along with the other ladies to join the new service of the trolley shop run by May Ettridge. Sadly Joy’s mother was too old to carry out this work but Joy went onto provide twenty five years service to the trolley.

Joy retired after the her long service award in 1997.
